Ellesmere Photography & Artist Base
Camp
The northern extremity of Ellesmere Island National Park is situated approximately 600 km south of the North Pole. We will make our base camp at Lake Hazen, the most northerly lake in the world and a lush Arctic oasis. Here we will explore this micro-climate with rich flora and miniature trees that reach only 4 inches high and are 100 years old. Wildlife abounds from tundra-nesting birds such as snowy owls, yellow billed loons and fat furry lemmings to roaming white wolf packs, scattered herds of muskoxen and thousands of Arctic hare. From our comfortable base camp, we will head out on daily explorations of this spectacular region. In the evenings we will return to our base camp, where can look forward to delicious meals and savoring memorable moments under the perpetual light of an Arctic summer.
