My photography career began in 1978 when I purchased my first 35 mm camera and headed north to co-lead a white water canoe journey down the Coppermine River to the Arctic Ocean. My camera quickly became my medium for expressing my passion for the natural world. For more than two decades I have had the tremendous priviledge to explore the far reaches of the planet and document my experiences.
My photographs have been featured in such major magazines as National Geographic, Canadian Geographic, Equinox, a number of European magazines, Canadian newspapers, and numerous books. I have also produced two books of my photography The Magnetic North (a Canadian best-seller) and The Northwest Passage together with writer Ed Struzik.
Please note that my photo library is closed for the summer and will re-open in September along with a dedicated website mikebeedellphoto.com. If you have upcoming images needs, shooting assignments or speaking engagements, please e-mail me your request over the summer. I will respond shortly after my return.
